Community-furlough bill needs your help

Message:

Hundreds of Nebraskans are serving lengthy prison terms under its marijuana laws. Do you want to give many of them a chance to return to their communities?

If so, now is the time to act. Without your help, a bill that would allow for community furloughs, L.B. 1117, will probably die in committee.

Under L.B. 1117, introduced by Senator Dwite Pedersen (39th District), the Department of Corrections could authorize furloughs to parole-eligible inmates when the parole board gave favorable recommendations. The inmates could spend 90 days in halfway houses; facilities where they could receive treatment and counseling for drug or alcohol problems; or private residences where they would work or receive training or treatment. Please call these committee members and ask them to pass L.B. 1117 out of committee:

Senator Kermit Brashear (4th District) 402-471-2621

Senator Ernie Chambers (11th District) 402-471-2612

Senator Mike Foley (29th District) 402-471-2734

Senator Mick Mines (18th District) 402-471-2618

Senator Ray Mossey (3rd District) 402-471-2627

Senator Dwite Pedersen (39th District) 402-471-2885

Senator Mark Quandahl (31st District) 402-471-2327

Senator Eugene Tyson (19th District) 402-471-2929

And please don't forget to tell your senator that you support L.B. 1117. Please take a few moments to take action. After you choose your favorite pre-written letter and type in your address, our site will automatically e-mail your letter to your legislators … all with the click of a few buttons. The whole process takes less than two minutes, but it makes a world of difference. Also, you can print the letters and send them to your legislators through regular mail.

Thank you for supporting the Marijuana Policy Project. Please pass this information on so that even more voices for reform can be heard.
