Montana House votes to repeal, ignores the will of the people

Message:

Poll shows 76% on Montanans oppose repeal, support law or new regulations

On Saturday and Monday, the Montana House voted, 63-37 and 62-37, to pass H.B. 161, which would repeal Montana’s medical marijuana law. We need all compassionate Montanans to speak out against this slap in the face to voters, and to ask friends and family to do the same. We will keep you informed about the next hearing in the Senate, as we will need everyone there.

Please ask your senator to not abandon patients and to support a well-regulated program by opposing H.B. 161. It is especially important to make sure your senator hears the stories of seriously ill patients. Please also call your senator.

In great news, Public Policy Polling conducted a poll over the weekend, finding that 76% of Montanans want to either leave the law as is or pass new regulations, while only 20% support repeal. Also, 63% of Montanans still generally support allowing medical marijuana.

The House will also likely vote soon on H.B. 429, which would completely gut Montana’s medical marijuana law. It would make participation in the medical marijuana program incredibly difficult, seemingly trying to reduce the number of participants to zero. It would require a doctor’s sworn affidavit in lieu of a written certification, and a court order from a judge for a caregiver. This would take the process out of the hands of doctors and patients, and flood court dockets, wasting taxpayer money and preventing actual cases from proceeding.

Thank you for your support.
