Title:
Montana election will decide future of medical marijuana law
Message:
The medical marijuana issue has heated up significantly in recent weeks, as voters prepare to vote up or down on an initiative, IR-124, that will determine the future of Montana’s medical marijuana law.
In the most recent development, a judge has issued a temporary restraining order to block key provisions of SB 423 (the legislature’s "repeal in disguise") from taking effect. The provisions had originally been blocked by an injunction, which was lifted in September. According to Patients for Reform, not Repeal, 5,598 patients would have been terminated from medical marijuana eligibility if not for the restraining order.
If voters make the mistake of passing IR-124, which would approve the SB 423 “repeal in disguise,” patients’ rights will again be placed in serious jeopardy.
In another key race, Democratic Attorney General Steve Bullock and Republican Congressman Rick Hill are competing to become Montana’s next governor. Bullock has said he will vote against IR-124, while Hill says he will vote in favor of the partial repeal.
