On February 4, the House Human Services Committee voted down
party lines to advance H.B. 161,
Speaker Mike Milburn’s (R) repeal bill. Please take
action as the full House could vote on repealing Montana’s medical
marijuana law as soon as this week!
If compassionate Montanans don’t mobilize now, thousands of
seriously ill patients could be turned into criminals! Please ask
your representative to support
patients and a well-regulated program and to oppose H.B. 161.
Although repeal
supporters were outnumbered 3-1 at the hearing, that wasn’t enough to stop
the bill from advancing. We’re hopeful that the Senate and governor will be
more compassionate than the House appears, but it’s vital that advocates speak
out now.
Also, S.B.
154 will have its Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on February 11 at
9:00 a.m. in Room
303. This bill, sponsored by an ally, will regulate marijuana
cultivators with many complex rules, and will mandate many public hearings. Please
attend, dressed professionally, and check in with Tom Daubert before testifying. S.B. 193, a
bill with many fair revisions to Montana’s medical marijuana law, many of which
are from MPP’s model bill, may also be heard that day.
Please pass this on so that even more Montanans
can support patients.
