A South County community that is still trying to get past this summer's "on camera" altercation involving a police sergeant remains caught in controversy.
In September, it was the St. George police officer that was under scrutiny for the taped altercation with a motorist. Now St. George's Mayor is under investigation for alleged marijuana possession.
Goodman was arrested after St. Louis County cops were investigating something else and allegedly discovered the drugs in his St. George apartment.
"All of a sudden everything is happening here.", says Sherry Black.
Like most folks in the metro, Black didn't know where St. George was until she moved-into the town of 1,300 in July. A couple of months later cameras and commotion followed and now they are both back with this bust of the mayor, a man who personally welcomed her to town.
"He was very nice shook my hand," says Black, "he asked if I needed anything here is my card just give me a call."
The only thing Goodman would say to Fox 2 was "mind-boggling." He has at least temporarily removed himself from office leaving the board president Board of Alderman President Heather Hediger was not only surprised by the arrest, but it left her suddenly in charge.
"I'm still trying to absorb the enormity of all of this," says the acting mayor who says she will work with the city attorney to move this small community forward. “St. George is a great town and a great place to live with great citizens and we are going to move past this."
As far as Goodman he is expected to face misdemeanor drug charges and may be part of a more serious investigation. County Police officers would not clarify that issue but apparently the marijuana was not the reason cops were at Goodman's apartment they allegedly came across the controlled substance. |
