Title:
Missouri: Urge your representative to assign HB 1138 to committee and set for hearing
Message:
Rep. Thomas Villa (D-108th) and seven co-sponsors have introduced HB 1138, which would protect seriously ill medical marijuana patients from arrest and prosecution in Missouri.
Even though there is massive support throughout the country and in Missouri for such legislation, the House has yet to assign HB 1138 to committee. In order for HB 1138 to have a chance of passing this year, it needs to receive a hearing. Please send your representative an e-mail today urging him or her to make sure HB 1138 is referred to committee and set for hearing.
After you have e-mailed your representative, follow up with a call asking him or her to assign HB 1138 to committee. Click here to find your representative’s contact information by simply entering your ZIP code. If you are directed to voicemail, please leave your name, address, and a short message such as:
"Seriously ill patients shouldn't have to worry about jail if they use medical marijuana with their doctors' approval. Please support HB 1138 by making sure it is assigned to committee and receives a hearing. Thank you.”
Rep. Villa's bill would create a state registry ID card system, which would make it easy for law enforcement to quickly determine that a patient has a doctor's recommendation for medical marijuana use. This helps legitimate patients to avoid detention and arrest. In addition, patients without registry cards would be able to avoid prosecution by showing medical records that prove their medical need for marijuana.
This bill is something patients in Missouri have long needed. Please help our most vulnerable citizens by taking the above actions today.
If you are a medical professional, a law enforcement officer, a clergy member, a member of the legal community, or a patient who could benefit from the medical use of marijuana, please e-mail Nathan@mpp.org to see how you can be of special help.
Thank you for supporting the Marijuana Policy Project.
