Title:
Missouri: Contact the Speaker of the House to make sure HB 1138 is assigned to committee
Message:
The response we have received to our last alert has been very encouraging — well over 100 members have already taken action and made contact with senators regarding HB 1138. A special thanks to all of you who have stepped forward to make sure Missouri protects the sick and dying.
Ultimately, it is up to the Speaker of the House, Rep. Rod Jetton (R-156), to make sure HB 1138 is assigned to committee. Please contact Rep. Jetton today and politely ask him to assign HB 1138 to committee so it can receive a hearing. Click here to send Rep. Jetton an e-mail urging him to assign HB 1138 to committee for hearing.
After you have e-mailed Rep. Jetton, please follow up with a call. You can reach Rep. Jetton at (573) 751-5912. If you are directed to voicemail, please leave your name, address, and a short message such as:
"Missouri should protect patients that decide along with their doctor that medical marijuana will help treat their illness. Please assign HB 1138 to the Health Care Policy committee and so it can receive a hearing. Thank you.”
Another thing that is crucial to the success of HB 1138 is that legislators read positive stories about medical marijuana in the news. Please write a letter-to-the-editor or an op-ed to your local paper using the talking points we have provided. The more people read about medical marijuana, the more familiar they will become with the issues; remember, an informed legislator is our friend.
When writing your letter or op-ed, keep in mind that most newspapers require that letters-to-the-editor be less than 150 words and full op-ed columns be less than 700 words. Also keep in mind that you do not have to use all, or any, of our talking points — they are provided merely for your guidance. Try to make your letter as unique as possible. Please be sure to let us know if your letter is published by e-mailing a copy of your printed submission to Nathan Miller at Nathan@mpp.org.
If you are a medical professional, a law enforcement officer, a clergy member, a member of the legal community, or a patient who could benefit from the medical use of marijuana, please e-mail Nathan@mpp.org to see how you can be of special help.
Thank you for supporting the Marijuana Policy Project.
