Missouri: Ask your legislators why medical marijuana is not on the agenda this year
Published: April 26, 2007
Nearly 150 members have taken action in regard to HB 1138 since our first alert! However, this amazing show of support for medical marijuana legislation has not yet resulted in HB 1138 being assigned to committee.
Please send your legislators an e-mail asking them why HB 1138 has not received any attention despite scientific and public support for this legislation.
After you have e-mailed your legislators, please call your representative and ask that they urge the speaker of the House, Rep. Rod Jetton (R-156), to assign HB 1138 to committee so it can receive a hearing. Click here to locate your representative’s telephone number.
If you are directed to voicemail, please leave your name, address, and a short message such as:
"Please urge the speaker of the House, Rep. Rod Jetton, to assign HB 1138 to the Health Care Policy committee so it can receive a hearing. Patients cannot wait another year for this legislation to get the attention it deserves. Thank you."
Ultimately, it is up to Rep. Jetton to make sure HB 1138 is assigned to committee. If you have not already, please contact Rep. Jetton today and politely ask him to assign HB 1138 to committee so it can receive a hearing. Click here to send Rep. Jetton an e-mail urging him to assign HB 1138 to committee for hearing.
After you have e-mailed Rep. Jetton, please follow up with a call. You can reach Rep. Jetton at (573) 751-5912. If you are directed to voicemail, please leave your name, address, and a short message such as:
"Missouri should protect patients that decide along with their doctor that medical marijuana will help treat their illness. Please assign HB 1138 to the Health Care Policy committee so it can receive a hearing. Thank you."
There is still a shortage of articles about medical marijuana appearing in Missouri newspapers. We need legislators to read positive stories about medical marijuana so they will take note of HB 1138 and call it for a vote. Please write a letter to the editor or an op-ed to your local paper using the talking points we have provided. Please be sure to let us know if your letter is published by e-mailing a copy of your printed submission to Nathan Miller at Nathan@mpp.org.
If you are a medical professional, a law enforcement officer, a clergy member, a member of the legal community, or a patient who could benefit from the medical use of marijuana, please e-mail Nathan@mpp.org to see how you can be of special help.
Thank you for supporting the Marijuana Policy Project.
