Medical Marijuana Bill Awaits Committee Action

A bill allowing Minnesotans to use marijuana for medical purposes awaits action by the House Health and Human Services Committee.

Sponsored by Rep. Thomas Huntley (DFL-Duluth), HF655 enables certain health care providers to prescribe marijuana for "debilitating medical conditions," such as cancer, glaucoma and HIV. Patients could grow the drug or purchase it from someone else.

According to the Houuse publication service, Session Daily, 11 states have similar laws in place.

A companion bill, SF345, awaits action by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
