Title:
Patients' voices needed to pass Minnesota's medical marijuana legislation
Message:
Minnesota's medical marijuana legislation stands on the brink of becoming law. It is currently in the House Ways and Means Committee and, upon its passage out of committee, it will then be sent to the floor of the House for its final vote. State representatives and the governor need to hear from the seriously ill patients who are counting on them.
|
If you are a seriously ill patient, or if you have recovered from a serious illness, please write Matt Witemyre at Matt@mpp.org or call him at (612) 424-7004 to see how you can help get this legislation moving.
We are especially looking for people who:
-
used medical marijuana to treat a serious illness in the past;
-
currently use medical marijuana to treat a serious illness;
-
do not use medical marijuana because of fear of criminal sanctions but would if it were legal under state law; or
-
are a relative of a living or deceased family member who is either using or has used marijuana to treat his or her serious illness.
Please include a phone number and your address and ZIP code (so we can determine who your state representative is). You can be involved as much or as little as you feel comfortable. | |
There is a very real chance that Minnesota can become the next state to allow medical marijuana: The Senate has already passed the medical marijuana bill, and the House is set to vote on this bill soon. The bill only has one remaining committee to pass out of before going to the House floor, and then to Gov. Pawlenty.
However, Gov. Pawlenty has already threatened to veto the bill, so it's imperative that more patients' voices are heard. Involvement can range from writing or calling legislators to submitting letters to the editors of newspapers to talking to reporters. So, please write Matt Witemyre at Matt@mpp.org or call him at (612) 424-7004 if you are a patient who is interested in helping make medical marijuana legal under Minnesota law.
Together, we can make Minnesota the 13th state to allow the doctor-advised, medical use of marijuana. Thank you for your support. Please pass this on to any patients or family members of patients you know who might be interested in getting involved.
