Marijuana Policy Project sues Minneapolis
In response to the Minneapolis City Council's 8-4 vote to knock the medical marijuana initiative off of the ballot—and disregard the will of more than 12,000 Minneapolis residents—MPP filed suit against the city of Minneapolis today.

The city has no legal grounds to block the initiative from the ballot. Here's why …
- Minnesota statutes require 7,774 signatures for a charter amendment to qualify in Minneapolis. On Monday, Citizens Organized for Harm Reduction submitted the required number of valid signatures.
- The only exception that courts have found to allowing an initiative on the ballot is if it's manifestly unconstitutional. This measure is not unconstitutional. Nor does it require the city to violate any laws. In fact, the amendment instructs the city to act to the extent allowed by state and federal law.
We will continue to update you on any new developments in the case. Thank you for supporting the Marijuana Policy Project. Please pass this on so that others may speak out for reform.
