Thousands Stock Up On Information At Medical Marijuana Expo In Detroit

Sorry Charles Rogers, the Michigan Medical Marijuana Association 2009 Expo in southwest Detroit was informational only.

"This isn't a pot fest," expo organizer Hillary Dulany told Fox 2. "This isn't a hash bash. This is an information expo that focuses on educating about the law."

Roughly 4,000 people had attended the expo by Sunday according to The Detroit News, and organizers hoped for around 5,000 by closing time.

Most, like Dede Federman, were there to figure out how Michigan's new medical marijuana law applies to their situation.

"My husband has cancer and we're interested in seeing if he can get some relief," Federman told Fox 2.

"He's applied for a license and we don't know much about it. So, we're just interested in finding out some more information."

The festival, held at Michigan and 22nd, also served as something of a job fair, according to Dulaney.

"It helps laid off auto workers and people that don't have jobs," she said. "Here you are. Here's an industry with it's arms wide open."

There are 1,100 people legally registered to provide 3,000 patients with medical marijuana, according to the News.
