Michigan's paper of record endorses Michigan medical marijuana initiative!

In the latest demonstration of the building momentum for a compassionate medical marijuana law in Michigan, the Detroit Free Press editorialized strongly in favor of Proposal 1 this morning. This spot-on endorsement from the state's paper of record echoes the support of the Michigan Nurses Association, more than 1,200 Michigan medical professionals, and the voting public at large, which favors passing Proposal 1 into law by a nearly 2-to-1 margin according to the most recent public polling.

The Free Press editorial makes a number of crucial points and flatly concludes, "This is not about drug use. It's about compassion." The editors also pointedly remind readers that "[V]oters in five Michigan cities — Detroit, Ann Arbor, Flint, Ferndale and Traverse City — and a dozen other states have already approved similar statutes without the dire consequences forecast by federal drug-control authorities who fear the start of a slippery slope toward broad drug legalization."

As the Free Press rightly notes, this initiative is about one thing only: protecting some of the most vulnerable Michigan residents from the threat of arrest and jail for simply using their doctor-recommended medicine. Would you please consider donating $10 or more today to the Michigan Coalition for Compassionate Care (MCCC) so the campaign can continue to build on this momentum?

Finally, if you are interested in becoming more involved in the campaign's crucial efforts in the run-up to Election Day, please contact MCCC Statewide Organizer Matt Witemyre at (734) 274-4184 or by e-mail. Thank you for your support of MPP and all of our allies.
