Title:
Mich: Senate committee reviewing medical marijuana bills tomorrow
Message:
Contact your senator now!
You might recall that last month the Michigan House of Representatives approved four bills that would, among other things, give law enforcement members direct access to patient registry information without a warrant and without proving they have probable cause prior to obtaining that information. Now those bills are in the Senate, and a key committee has scheduled a hearing on those bills for tomorrow afternoon.
Please call or write your state senator and ask him/her to oppose or amend these bills.
I’ve already touched on the privacy concerns implicated by this legislation, but that’s not the only bad news. Another bill would criminalize transferring marijuana by car except in a container in a trunk (there’s no such requirement for more impairing narcotics like Vicodin, or even alcohol for that matter).
There are some positive provisions, like extending patients' registrations from one year to two, but in their current form, MPP has no choice but to oppose these bills. Please call or email your state senator and ask him/her to do the same.
Thank you!
