Mass.: Medical marijuana debated in Judiciary Committee

Message:

Yesterday, the Joint Judiciary Committee heard testimony on SB 818, one of Massachusetts’ two bills that would finally protect patients from being penalized for using marijuana according to their doctors’ recommendations. Please email your senator and representative and ask them to support sensible medical marijuana legislation.

The bills’ authors — Senator Thomas McGee, Senator Stanley Rosenberg, and Representative Frank Smizik — understand that marijuana’s proven therapeutic properties and its relatively low potential for addiction make it an ideal natural substance for helping combat and control many different medical conditions and symptoms. Many of your fellow Bay Staters understand this too. In September 2009, Suffolk University polling showed 81% of Massachusetts' voters support medical marijuana. Make sure your representative and senator know their constituents support compassion over incarceration.

Sixteen states, plus the District of Columbia, have compassionate laws on the books that allow their citizens to use marijuana for medical purposes as recommended by their physicians. Please raise your voice so Massachusetts can join them.
