Woman, 71, Busted for Pot Following Car Crash


PRINCESS ANNE -- Police say troopers found marijuana inside the car of a 71-year-old woman involved in a Wednesday afternoon crash in Princess Anne.

According to Maryland State Police, at approximately 2:30 p.m., troopers responded to a motor vehicle accident on northbound Route 13 at Perry Road in Princess Anne. An investigation revealed that the driver of a 1988 Honda Civic was crossing northbound Route 13 from Perry Road when she failed to yield the right of way to traffic on Route 13. Police say a 2000 Chrysler driven by Tammy Reynolds then struck the driver's side door of the Honda Civic pushing the Civic into the grassy median.

Police say the driver of the Civic, 71-year-old Lucille Ballard of Elkridge, Md.,was injured and flown to Peninsula Regional Medical Center by state police helicopter. Reynolds was uninjured.

According to police, during the investigation at the scene, troopers located a clear plastic sandwich bag containing 28 grams of suspected marijuana inside Ballard's car. Police charged Ballard with one count of possession of marijuana, on a criminal summons. Ballard remains hospitalized due to her injuries.
