MD: Affirmative defense bill clears Judiciary Committee!

Message:

House floor vote likely tomorrow – call your delegates now!

Amazing news: we just overcame the biggest obstacle in our path toward removing criminal penalties from medical marijuana patients in Maryland! A bill that would give patients an affirmative defense for use or possession of marijuana, if approved by their doctors, was passed by the House Judiciary Committee last night. The committee is chaired by Del. Joe Vallario – yes, that Joe Vallario – so this is a major accomplishment.

The Health & Government Operations Committee is voting today, so the floor vote could happen tomorrow. Please call your House delegates today and urge them to vote “yes” on SB 308. Remember, Maryland has multimember districts, so most of you have multiple delegates.

We’re obviously very excited about this latest development, which opens up a clear path to the governor’s desk, but we cannot afford to take anything for granted. Please take just one minute of your time to email your delegates, or better yet, take two minutes and call their offices. We’ll give you sample scripts to make your job easier. When you’re done, forward this email to your friends or post the link on your favorite social networking site.

Thanks!
