Maryland Senate passes medical marijuana improvements!

Contact your House delegates now!

Good news! The Maryland Senate just passed SB 308, which would improve Maryland’s current medical marijuana law by removing a sentencing reduction and replacing it with a full affirmative defense, by a vote of 41-6. Let me say that again, the vote was 41-6! If we can get this through the House, patients in Maryland who use marijuana with the advice of their physicians will no longer be subject to criminal penalties. The bill also includes a study group that would advise the legislature on more comprehensive legislation next year.

Please e-mail your delegates today and urge them to support this compassionate legislation.

The next week will be critical. We need everyone contacting their delegates and urging them to pass the bill, so please post this link (http://tinyurl.com/46od2lm) on your Facebook wall, tweet it, share it with your friends, and do whatever you can to help generate e-mails. Also, we need to hear from constituents of House Judiciary Chairman Joe Vallario, who represents parts of Prince George’s and Calvert counties. If he’s your delegate (after you send an e-mail, you’ll see a message showing you who the letter went to), or you know someone who is a constituent, let me know.

Thanks everyone!
