Maryland: Key committee vote possible Tuesday

Published: April 4, 2011

Contact your House delegate today!

As we told you recently, the Maryland Senate has passed legislation that would create a study committee to advise the legislature on implementing a medical marijuana program and, more importantly, make immediate improvements to Maryland law by giving medical marijuana patients in Maryland a full affirmative defense against criminal conviction if they can provide sufficient evidence of medical necessity. The House has already passed the study language, and the Judiciary Committee is now considering the defense.

Your House delegate is a member of this key committee – please write or call him or her today and voice your support for medical marijuana patients.

I was at a hearing before the committee last week where several amendments were discussed that need to be considered before the committee votes on the bill. We expect those amendments to be ready, and the bill to be voted on, as early as tomorrow. This is as close as we’ve ever been to removing criminal penalties from medical marijuana users in Maryland, but we’re not there yet. Please help; it takes just two minutes to make a call, and less than a minute to send an email to your House delegate.

Thank you!
