Maryland State Policy Alert

Title:

Maryland at center of national marijuana debate

Message:

With six marijuana policy reform bills getting either a hearing or a committee vote soon, Maryland is arguably the most active state in the country for marijuana reform advocates.

First, a House committee has just announced it will consider legislation, similar to initiatives that passed in Colorado and Washington last November, that would tax and regulate marijuana like alcohol in Maryland. In the Senate, a key committee will be voting soon — likely today — on two bills that would make possession of marijuana a civil, rather than criminal, offense. Please stop what you’re doing and tell your legislators to stop making criminals out of marijuana users.

Medical marijuana is also getting its day in the spotlight. Later today, Irvin Rosenfeld, one of four patients in the federal government’s little-known medical marijuana program, will be speaking at a press conference along with patients, advocates, and legislators from Maryland. He will also speak at a hearing tomorrow on three medical marijuana bills. Please also ask your legislators to support medical marijuana.

Thanks for your help. Another way to make an impact is by forwarding this email to friends and asking them to do the same.
