Hearing in Annapolis Friday – join advocates in support of improving Maryland’s medical marijuana law

Published: February 25, 2010

Dear MPP Supporter:

As we told you recently, Del. Dan Morhaim, a physician in Maryland’s House of Representatives, has introduced legislation that would close two very significant gaps in  Maryland’s medical marijuana law by allowing regulated access and protecting patients from arrest. The bill would allow pharmacies or other state-regulated outlets to dispense medical marijuana to patients with doctor recommendations. MPP and other advocates will be on hand Friday when the bill goes before a joint session of the House Judiciary and Health and Government Operations Committees — and we hope you’ll join us.

What: Hearing on HB 712, medical marijuana bill

When: Friday, February 26, 1:00 p.m.

Who: House Judiciary and Health and Government Operations committees

Where: Maryland Legislative Services Building — across from the Statehouse — in the Joint Hearing Room

We’ll be there to address opponents who apparently still haven’t heard about the myriad studies documenting marijuana’s medical efficacy, or the dozens of medical professional organizations that support allowing doctors to recommend marijuana when appropriate. To help us, we’re looking for patients, doctors, and other medical professionals with unique perspectives they’d like to share with the legislature. If you’re one of these people, please send me an e-mail at driffle@mpp.org.

Most of all, if you support an end to arresting seriously ill patients and giving those patients a safe way to access their medicine, it’s important for you to be there to show your support for improving Maryland’s law.

Thanks as always,

Dan Riffle
