Title:
Deadline day for decriminalization in Maryland
Message:
The Maryland General Assembly will adjourn for the year on Monday. That means the marijuana decriminalization bill that was passed by the Senate and endorsed by the Washington Post last month needs to also pass in the House by Monday in order to become law. Unfortunately, while it’s been a week since the House Judiciary Committee had a hearing on the bill, the chairman of that committee, Del. Joe Vallario (D-Prince George’s and Calvert), hasn’t allowed his committee to vote on it.
Call or email Del. Joe Vallario and urge him to give SB 297 a vote!
In many states, bills automatically get a vote in the committee where they are assigned. Maryland is not one of those states. In order for SB 297 to become law, Del. Vallario needs to allow his committee to vote on it. If he doesn’t do that by tomorrow, there won’t be enough time for it to pass in the full House of Delegates.
Please call or email Del. Vallario today and ask him to let his committee vote on SB 297. You can amplify the effect by forwarding this email to a friend or posting it to Twitter and Facebook. Thanks for your help!
