Title:
Spread the word: It's safer than alcohol!
Message:
Have you heard the big news?
Last week, State Representatives Diane Russell (D-Portland) and Aaron Libby (R-Waterboro) introduced a bill to regulate marijuana like alcohol in the state of Maine! If passed, Maine would join Colorado and Washington as the only states to make such a dramatic change to marijuana laws.
I had the pleasure to speak at the press conference when the bill was introduced. It was amazing to see so many cameras at the event, proving that the public is truly interested in ending marijuana prohibition.
Not surprisingly, we ended up with tons of positive news coverage, including newspaper articles and local TV coverage. Portland Press Herald columnist Bill Nemitz, in a piece entitled, "Feeling good about legal pot," pointed out the many benefits of regulation. He even emphasized one point we like to make — that it makes no sense to punish adults for using marijuana instead of the more harmful substance, alcohol:
Let's face it, folks, alcohol can be one messy recreational drug.
Depending on who's drinking it and how much, booze frequently leads to fistfights inside and outside bars, hangovers, serious addiction, domestic disturbances, trouble with the cops and, in cases of extreme consumption, trips to the emergency room.
Marijuana, on the other hand, leads to the munchies, fascination with inanimate objects and the occasional case of the giggles.
More and more Mainers are waking up to the fact that marijuana is objectively safer than alcohol. If you have any friends or family members who may think otherwise, please forward this email to them and encourage them to read Bill Nemitz's column.
I look forward to working alongside you in this important fight to end marijuana prohibition.
