Title:
Maine: LD 1229 important update
Message:
Last week, despite overwhelming support from Mainers to end marijuana prohibition, the Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee voted to kill LD 1229, An Act to Regulate and Tax Marijuana.
It is truly disappointing that the committee chose to continue criminalizing otherwise law-abiding citizens and wasting our law enforcement's precious resources. All over a substance objectively less harmful than alcohol.
Luckily, because of the courage of three committee members, LD 1229 is not dead. Sen. Gary Plummer (R-Windham), Rep. Cory Wilson (R-Augusta) and Rep. Bryan Kaenrath (D-South Portland) stood on principle and will champion the minority report on the House and Senate floor.
The minority report would put the question of taxing and regulating marijuana on the ballot this November.
That is why it is critical you call the Maine House and Senate and politely demand that they support the minority report for LD 1229. Let the operator know where you are calling from and ask him or her to tell your elected officials to support LD 1229's minority report to send the bill out to the people!
Maine House: (207) 287-1400
Maine Senate: (207) 287-1540
After you have called the State House, please email your elected representatives and urge them to support LD 1229 and put this important question on the ballot!
Opportunities like this are rare enough under usual circumstances, but in the context of the current national marijuana policy debate, with your help, we have a real shot at ending marijuana prohibition in Maine.
