Gov. LePage signs patient privacy bill

Message:

Good news! Earlier today, Governor Paul LePage signed LD 1296 into law. Sponsored by Rep. Deborah Sanderson (R-Chelsea), the bill will make several important changes to the state’s medical marijuana program.

LD 1296 will make a number of improvements to Maine’s program. Most notably, it will make registration with the state optional for patients and for caregivers who are family or household members of their patients. Other significant changes the bill will make include increasing the amount of marijuana plants patients and caregivers may possess and requiring the Department of Health to develop a process for petitioning to add further qualifying conditions, among other revisions. This new law will go into effect in late September.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to call and email Gov. LePage in support of the bill. The medical marijuana program in Maine is most certainly one to take pride in!
