Former Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings quarterback Quincy Carter pleaded guilty here today to possession of a small amount of marijuana.
Carter, 30, got a standard sentence for a misdemeanor marijuana conviction in Caddo District Court: a $300 fine, suspended jail term and six months probation.
Carter, a former quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys who played for the Battle Wings this past season, was arrested by Shreveport police last month after a traffic stop on Youree Drive. Officers were in the area after getting a call about suspicious activity at Youree and Southfield Road and Carter's car matched the description.
Carter passed a sobriety test but told police he had 3 grams of marijuana hidden in his pants, Caddo Assistant District Attorney Brian Barber said.
Three grams is the weight of three individual packets of artificial sweetener.
Carter is scheduled for trial next month on marijuana possession charges in Dallas, Barber said.
Carter was the Cowboys' second-round draft choice in 2001. He started 31 games for the team but was released in 2004 amid drug allegations. |
