Title:
Louisiana voters support sensible marijuana policies; help us prove it
Message:
I’m writing you today to offer you a very specific and direct way for you to help prevent Louisianans from being locked away for marijuana. Earlier this year, the Louisiana House voted to decrease draconian penalties on second and subsequent marijuana offenses, but the bill had already been watered down, and the Senate didn’t take a vote. We need your help to show lawmakers that voters are ready for broader reform — that they don’t think jail space should be wasted on locking people up for using a product that’s safer than alcohol.
We need to run a statewide poll in Louisiana, and we need you to make a donation to help us do that.
We’ll only need about $1,500 to do this. I wouldn’t ask for your money unless I was confident this could make a big difference. Louisiana has some of the harshest marijuana penalties in the nation, and one of the highest arrest rates. For lawmakers to change this, they need to know voters are ready for a more sensible and humane approach. Show your support by making the first dollar yours.
Thanks for all that you do!
P.S. If you haven’t already, don’t forget to write your legislators in Louisiana to ask them to support fining — not jailing — marijuana users.
