The pre-trial hearing for a former Oldham County Police officer who resigned after being charged with growing marijuana has been scheduled for Nov. 21.
Travis Combs, the attorney representing Gerald W. Colston, said that will allow time to learn more about the case. He said he plans to talk with the county attorney's office and see if they can reach a resolution; if not, the case will go to trial.
"It will be several months before we resolve the issue, I'm sure," said Combs, who appeared in Oldham County District Court this morning.
Colston, 38, did not attend the short pre-trial conference.
Colston was arraigned Sept. 4 after being charged with growing four marijuana plants at rental property where he lived off Rose Island Road in the Goshen area. The charge is a misdemeanor because it is the first time he has faced it. Had the charge involved five plants, it would have been a felony.
Colston resigned from the police department, where he had worked for eight years, on Aug. 31. He was in charge of the county's only drug-sniffing police dog. |
