NYC Bulks up Random Drug Testing of Police to Include Steroids
NEW YORK (AP) — New York City is bulking up its random drug testing of police to include steroids.
The tests comes after allegations that an illegal steroid ring was supplying bodybuilding police officers.
Officials insist the decision to test for anabolic steroids doesn't reflect a concern about widespread abuse. They said they want to stress that using steroids without a prescription is illegal.
The department plans to start the urine tests in July. Currently, officers are randomly tested for heroin, cocaine, marijuana and other illegal drugs through hair samples.
Union officials had no comment on the plan. |
