Southeast Kentucky can be a beautiful place to live, but officials say the conditions here also make it an ideal place for growing marijuana.
Thursday, Kentucky National Guard soldiers who help police get rid of pot growing operations got some financial help. U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell presented more than three million dollars to the guard. The state's adjutant general says it's an ongoing battle.
"We're in the heart of the Daniel Boone Forest where most of the marijuana cultivation is conducted, so we're in the eradication business. It's essential to the youth and the future of Southeast Kentucky," said Major General Donald Storm.
The money was presented to the guard at the London-Corbin Airport. The airport will soon become the Central Headquarters of Eradication Operations in Eastern Kentucky. |
