Letter: Make Marijuana Legal And Tax It

The editor:

In Mexico they call marijuana loco weed. In the United States they call marijuana a controlled substance. It is estimated that this controlled substance costs the American taxpayers about eight point two billion dollars a year, just to jail and feed the abusers. Plus six point three billion dollars for court costs, health and substance control.

It seems to me that if our senators and representatives in Washington wanted to play fair with the United States taxpayers, they would make marijuana legal, and put a tax on it like they do with tobacco and whiskey.

This way “like tobacco and whiskey” they could put the abusers in jail, and not put the taxpayers in jeopardy.
