Ask your legislators to oppose legislation that would unnecessarily target marijuana smokers for DUI offenses

A bill that would make driving an automobile with a detectable quantity of any Schedule I drug (including marijuana) in the body a DUI offense has been introduced in the Kentucky Legislature. H.B. 490 was introduced by Rep. John Stacy (D - District 71) and has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee.

This policy change is unnecessary and unfairly targets marijuana users because the metabolite byproducts associated with marijuana remain in the human body for several weeks, even though actual impairment lasts for only a few hours.

Please Take Action to send a pre-written letter to your state representative and senator. After you choose your favorite pre-written letter and type in your address, our site will automatically determine who your state legislators are and e-mail your letter to them … all with the click of a few buttons. The whole process takes less than two minutes but makes a world of difference. Also, please take a look at the bills, which are posted on MPP's Kentucky Bills Pending page.

Only you can let the Kentucky Legislature know that the state should target individuals who are functionally impaired by alcohol or drugs while driving a vehicle. Targeting the simple presence of a drug would waste police time and resources without making our roads and highways any safer. Please pass this along to others in Kentucky so your legislators can become aware that voters oppose this bill.
