Another path for medical marijuana in Kansas
Last week brought two new developments on medical marijuana in Kansas. First, new medical marijuana legislation was introduced in the Kansas House. HB 2198, introduced by the House Committee on Vision 2020, is similar to SB 9 but includes additional training for doctors who recommend medical marijuana. Please ask the members of the Federal and State Affairs Committee, where that bill has been assigned, to give the bill a hearing today.
Speaking of SB 9, it has been stalled in the Public Health and Welfare Committee since chairwoman Sen. Mary Pilcher-Cook said she wasn’t willing to even grant the bill a hearing. As a result, Sen. David Haley announced plans to introduce a medical marijuana amendment to another bill, SB 39, and move the bill through the Judiciary Committee instead. Please also share your support for medical marijuana with members of that committee.
With our automated system, it’ll take you less than two minutes to contact all 33 members of Judiciary and Federal and State Affairs Committees. You can also forward this to friends and ask them to do the same. Patients and activists are doing their part, it’s time for Kansas legislators to do theirs.
