Marijuana study resolution faces likely Indiana Senate vote Monday

Message:

On Monday, the Indiana Senate will likely vote on S.R. 70, a marijuana study commission resolution. The resolution passed out of the Senate Committee on Corrections, Criminal, and Civil Matters on April 12. This resolution would urge the Senate Legislative Council “to direct a Sentencing Policy Study Committee to study the effects of potential changes to marijuana policy in Indiana.”  S.R. 70 only needs to pass the Senate.

Please email your Indiana state senator, and urge him or her to pass S.R. 70, to begin the discussion on changing failed marijuana policies in Indiana. Hoosier legislators need to hear from you about why marijuana laws need revision. Please, pass this on to your friends and family so that everyone takes action on this important bill to change Indiana’s future.

A more extensive study bill, S.B. 192, passed the Senate 28-21, on February 22, but stalled in the House, largely due to the slowdown resulting from the House Democrats’ exodus from the capitol. S.B. 192 more specifically required a Sentencing Policy Study Committee to evaluate Indiana’s marijuana laws over the summer, and discuss alternatives such as ending prohibition, decriminalizing possession, or allowing medical marijuana.
