Title:

Marijuana decriminalization introduced in Hoosier State

Message:

Ask your legislators to support this popular, sensible proposal.

Might this be the year that growing support for marijuana reform in Indiana finally leads to real change? Sen. Karen Tallian has introduced Senate Bill 580, which would make possession of less than two ounces of marijuana a class C infraction punishable by a fine only with no possibility of jail time.

Please ask your legislators to co-sponsor this sensible legislation.

Currently, possession of up to 30 grams (about an ounce) is punishable by up to one year in jail, while possession of more than 30 grams is a felony with a minimum sentence of six months and a maximum of three years. Tallian’s bill would not only reduce these outdated, harsh penalties, it would also make common sense changes to the state’s “driving under the influence of drugs” laws and allow for cultivation of industrial hemp.

These reforms are based on the recommendations of an expert committee appointed in 2010. Decriminalization is supported by respected law-and-order officials like Republican Senator Brent Steele and the state’s former state police superintendent. Most importantly, it is supported by a majority of Indiana residents. Please, ask your legislators to support this bill, then forward this to a friend and ask them to do the same.
