Groundbreaking news: Hoosier State marijuana reform study bill introduced!

Message:

In a watershed moment for the Midwest, on Tuesday, Senator Karen Tallian (D-Ogden Dunes) introduced S.B. 192, which will require the criminal law and sentencing policy study committee to evaluate Indiana’s marijuana laws, and discuss alternatives.

Please take action and e-mail your senators, asking them to co-author and support S.B. 192. Your voices are integral, as this is a new concept for Indianan legislators, and they need to hear why marijuana laws need revision.

The policy committee would study and make recommendations on what the appropriate penalties (if any) should be for marijuana possession, whether and how to implement a medical marijuana program, and whether marijuana should be taxed and regulated like alcohol. It is one of the more forward-thinking marijuana policy bills ever introduced in any state legislature, and we have it right here in Indiana!

In unfortunate news, SB 86 recently passed the Senate 48-1. It will require unemployment benefit seekers to declare upon penalty of perjury (up to three years of prison) that they will not use marijuana. We will work with our allies, ReLegalize Indiana, to keep you informed about both bills.

Please pass this on so that even more Indianans can participate in reform.
