Editorial: Therapeutic pot

The notoriously conservative Chicago Tribune reverses course and endorses HB 30, which would make Illinois the 16th state with an effective medical marijuana law.

The editorial notes a 2008 poll paid for and promoted by MPP:

The therapeutic benefits of marijuana are still hotly debated, but the idea of whether to permit medical use apparently is pretty well settled for most citizens of Illinois. A Mason-Dixon poll in 2008 found 68 percent supported allowing doctors to prescribe marijuana to people who are seriously ill. The support was consistent across the state — 70 percent in the Chicago area, 65 percent Downstate.
