State Senate Committee Passes Marijuana Bill

The Illinois Senate Public Health Committee passed a bill March 25 that would allow seriously ill patients with certain conditions to legally use medical marijuana, according to a Marijuana Policy Project press release.
SB 1381—sponsored by State Sen. Bill Haine, D-Alton—passed by a 6-3 vote. It is the companion bill to HB 2514, which passed the House Health and Human Services Committee, 4-3, on March 4; State Rep. Lou Lang, D-Skokie, sponsored that measure.
In the statement, Haine said, “This is an important step for suffering Illinoisians who rely on medical cannabis because they, in consultation with their doctors, have determined it is the best treatment available to them.” |
