SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — State legislators managed to put together a new budget and adjourn their spring session on schedule, but plenty of issues affecting average Illinoisans were lost in the hoopla.
The unfinished business includes healthy school lunches, ousting corrupt officials and legalizing marijuana for medicine.
Legislation restricting trans fats in school cafeteria food was approved by the Senate but not the House.
The House and Senate each approved different versions of a constitutional amendment to let people recall unpopular officials. As a result, neither version will be placed on the fall ballot.
And a plan stalled in the Senate to legalize marijuana for people with debilitating illnesses, such as AIDS or cancer. |
