Title:

Volunteers needed to help pass medical marijuana in Illinois

Message:

Despite poll numbers, Tribune and Sun Times editorials, and other indicators of medical marijuana’s popularity, many legislators still haven’t gotten the message. They oppose this compassionate measure in the name of sounding “tough on crime.”

The most effective way to convince these legislators to change their point of view is for them to hear directly from constituents. Emails are helpful, but sometimes a personal touch is needed. With that in mind, we’re asking you for help with a new effort to get constituents in touch with their legislators.

We have several hundred postcards with messages in support of medical marijuana in Illinois, and we’re looking for volunteers to help collect them. The messages are pre-printed on the postcards, so all you have to do is have supporters – more than 68% of Illinois’ voters – write their addresses on the back and sign the cards. You can start with friends and family, then collect dozens more at large public meeting spots like libraries or farmers’ markets.

If you or someone you know is interested in this project, send me an email at driffle@mpp.org, and we’ll talk more about the details.
