Title:
Victory in Illinois!
Message:
Finally. It’s my pleasure to tell you that today, after years of lobbying led by MPP, the Illinois House of Representatives passed legislation that removes criminal penalties for the medical use of marijuana by seriously ill people whose doctors recommend it. The vote was just as close as we thought it might be — 61-57 — but we got a majority and that’s all that matters. The bill now goes to the state Senate, so you know what to do …
Please contact your senator now and urge him or her to vote “yes” on HB 1.
It’s times like this that I’m especially proud of the work we do here at MPP. My colleagues and I have traveled to Springfield to educate lawmakers, hired lobbyists, brought high-profile endorsers to the capital, paid for polling, and, most of all, my colleagues and I have worked tirelessly. Please help us to continue our work by donating to MPP.
We’re obviously very excited about today’s landmark vote, but our work is far from done. The bill must be approved by the Senate and signed by the governor before it becomes law. Please don’t waste any time: contact your state senator now, and then forward this email to your friends and ask them to do the same.
