Medical cannabis bill clears first hurdle

Message:

Ask your elected officials to vote YES on HB 30.

The Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program Act has cleared its first major hurdle in the Illinois Legislature. In a 6-5 vote, the House Human Services Committee reported HB 30 out of committee favorably. The bill will now head to the floor where we still need to pick up more votes.

Now is the time to contact your elected officials and urge them to support HB 30.

If passed, the Act would allow qualifying patients with HIV/AIDS, multiple sclerosis, cancer, and other debilitating conditions to purchase up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis in any 14-day period from state-regulated medical cannabis organizations.

“This legislation is intended to alleviate pain in people suffering debilitating medical conditions,” said Rep. Lou Lang (D-Skokie), the bill’s sponsor. “My goal is to persuade a majority of lawmakers to vote their knowledge and their conscience.”

You can help by asking your elected officials to support the bill. The best way to do so is to call your representative, and we’ve provided you with a short script and all the tools you need. If time is short, it takes less than a minute to send an e-mail using our automated system.

Thanks for all you do!
