HI: Support accurate classification

Message:

Hawaii’s legislative session has begun and bills are being heard. Make sure your legislators know how their constituency feels about legislation by voicing your opinion. Call your senator today and urge her or him to support reclassifying marijuana to recognize its medical value.

Currently, Hawaii’s controlled substances act classifies marijuana as a Schedule I narcotic, meaning it has no therapeutic use and a high potential for abuse. SB 174, which is scheduled for a hearing on Wednesday, February 2, would reschedule marijuana to Schedule III, recognizing scientific findings showing that marijuana has therapeutic benefits and is less addictive than Schedule II narcotics like cocaine and oxycontin. Call your senator and ask him or her to support accurate scheduling.

Sensible marijuana policy will only be achieved if lawmakers listen to reason and science. SB 174, supported by the Hawaii Medical Association, is based in scientific findings. Ask your senator to support this bill today!
