Hawaii resolution calling for a regulated system of marijuana distribution passes one committee, will be heard again soon in another

HCR 10, a resolution calling on the mayor and the Council of Maui County to "implement various measures regarding medical marijuana in the County of Maui," passed out of the House Health Committee on March 23 by a 6-4 vote. Now the resolution goes to the House Judiciary Committee, where it will be heard on Tuesday, April 3.

HCR 10 proposes various steps in the right direction towards further marijuana policy reform and needs your immediate support to receive a favorable hearing. Supported by nine co-sponsors, the resolution calls for a county-regulated "Family Farmer" program under which farmers would be licensed to cultivate and distribute marijuana for up to 200 medical marijuana patients. The resolution would also direct the Maui County Police Department to make adult medical marijuana offenses its lowest law enforcement priority. Finally, HCR 10 advocates further legislative change regarding medical marijuana, at both the state and federal levels.

Please take a moment to contact the Judiciary Committee chairs and members in support of this forward-thinking resolution. Urge them to consider and vote in favor of the proposed Family Farmer Medical Marijuana Regulation and Revenue Program. This program would present a wonderful experiment for a regulated system of medical marijuana distribution.

(Legislators especially like to hear from their constituents, so if you recognize any of the following names as your representative, please call him or her first. If you are unsure who represents you, you may look that up here. If none of the committee members represent you, we still highly encourage you to contact as many as you can, of your choosing.)
