Hawaii: Important bills up for floor votes

Message:

Email your representative asking her or him to support sensible changes to the medical marijuana program!

Tomorrow, March 5, will be a busy day in the Hawaii Legislature. The House will vote on two proposals – H.B. 667 and H.B. 668 – that would make improvements to Hawaii’s 13-year-old medical marijuana program. Please urge your representative to reform the medical marijuana program to implement changes that are proven to work in other jurisdictions. The bills are scheduled to be voted on tomorrow, so please request that your representative vote “yes” on H.B. 667 and H.B. 668 today!

In addition to the House action on bills affecting the medical marijuana program, the Senate is set to vote on S.B. 472, a bill that would replace the current criminal penalties for possession of up to an ounce of marijuana with a civil violation. Originally, the proposed fine was for $100, but this got amended in committee to be a fine of $1,000. We feel this is too punitive but are hopeful it will be amended back down in the House. We’ll keep you informed on its progress.

For now, please email your representative in support of medical marijuana changes, and then consider asking your friends to do so as well!
