Title:
Hawaii: House Judiciary to consider repealing marijuana prohibition
Message:
Submit testimony in support of H.B. 699 immediately!
Tomorrow afternoon, the House Judiciary committee will meet to consider H.B. 699, a bill introduced by Speaker of the House Joseph Souki (D) that would end Hawaii’s marijuana prohibition. The committee will accept written testimony from the public until 2:00 p.m. today, January 31! Please submit your testimony now so you don’t forget!
It is clear that marijuana prohibition is failed policy. Use rates remain consistent, despite decades of enforcement of current policy. Fifty-seven percent of Hawaiians polled support “legalized, taxed and regulated marijuana” over the current prohibition. Express your support by submitting testimony in favor of the bill and then ask your representative to support the measure! After that, ask your friends and neighbors to submit testimony of their own.
House Judiciary needs to hear that responsible adults should not be criminalized for using a substance that has been proven safer than alcohol. Regulating marijuana ensures purity and allows the state to create barriers to teen use.
