Title:

Ask your representative to improve Hawaii’s medical marijuana program

Message:

Urge your representative to support necessary changes to Hawaii’s 13-year-old medical marijuana program!

Any day now, the Hawaii House of Representatives will vote on a bill – SB 462, HD 1 – that is the new legislative vehicle for making the many positive changes to Hawaii’s medical marijuana program originally proposed by HB 667. While the committee process removed the patient reciprocity language from the bill, it still contains many positive changes, like increasing the amount of usable marijuana patients may possess. Please ask your representative to vote “yes” on SB 462, HD 1 today!

This legislation also includes the language to transfer jurisdiction of the medical marijuana program from the public safety department to the health department. The bill to originally do this – HB 668 – was amended in a manner that would greatly complicate the transfer. Ask your representative to pass this necessary bill.

Unfortunately, the bill to replace criminal penalties for possession of a small amount of marijuana with civil penalties is dead for the session, but it can be looked at again in 2014. Marijuana policy reform is still possible this year with your help. Lawmakers need to hear from you and your supportive friends!
