Ask Governor Rick Scott to veto HB 49 today!
Late last week, the Florida Legislature passed a bill that would ban the sale of various bongs, hookahs, and pipes. Ostensibly, HB 49 is about preventing marijuana use. But let’s get serious; if marijuana prohibition can’t prevent marijuana use, HB 49 stands little chance of being effectual. What it will do is create a brand new class of criminals. These criminals will be made up of the currently above-the-board responsible business owners that sell these products today. Ask Gov. Scott to veto this bill!
At the same time the legislature is busy creating more criminals, counties across the state are working on ways to reduce overcrowding in their correctional facilities. State lawmakers should work with local partners to help solve this problem, not exacerbate it. Ask Gov. Scott to prevent further overcrowding by vetoing this bill.
