D.C.: Rally at the White House

Published: June 22, 2011

Once again, Congress has included a provision in this year’s budget regarding medical marijuana in the District. Unlike previous so-called “riders,” this one allows D.C. to spend its own money to implement our medical marijuana law, but it does say that the District can’t spend any federal dollars on the program. Of course, at any time a member of Congress from somewhere far away from D.C. could insert a more restrictive rider telling the District how it can and can’t spend its own funds.

I mention all this because this weekend you have a unique opportunity to stand up for our home-rule rights. This Saturday, our allies at DC Vote will be holding a rally at the White House to “call on President Obama to stand with the 600,000 residents of the District of Columbia who demand democracy, full equality and full citizenship.”

Date: Saturday, June 25, 2011

Location: Lafayette Square Park, 16th & H Streets, NW (in front of the White House)

Time: 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Come join your neighbors for a family-friendly day of music, speakers, and activities in support of democracy in the District. More details here, and we hope to see you there!
