Find out how you can help pass medical marijuana legislation in Delaware
Published: June 3, 2010
Last year, for the first time, a modern medical marijuana bill, S.B. 94, was introduced in Delaware, and it passed out of the Senate Health & Social Services Committee. This year, we have worked hard with our sponsor, Sen. Margaret Rose Henry (D-Wilmington), to build support among her colleagues and to draft substitute language, which she will introduce imminently. Now, we need your help to try to move the bill through both chambers of the legislature before the session finishes at the end of June!
In order to make that big push successful, we need you to contact your legislators and let them know how important this issue is to you. Especially in a small state like Delaware, you and your friends and family are the ones that can make a difference. Please e-mail your legislators and urge them to co-sponsor medical marijuana legislation and support it when it comes to the floor. Please also pass this alert on so that we can continue to grow our base of Delaware activists taking action.
If you are a patient, a loved one, a medical professional, or a member of law enforcement or the clergy and are willing to meet with your senator and representative about the issue of allowing medical marijuana for the seriously ill, please contact me at NMamber@mpp.org. Please include your nine-digit ZIP code or your address so we can identify your legislators, and please share your connection with medical marijuana. For this bill to pass, lawmakers need to hear from patients and their allies, and we would like help you set up one-on-one meetings between you and your legislators.
We are also trying to do to outreach to seriously ill patients in other creative ways. Please e-mail NMamber@mpp.org if you would like to volunteer to help get the word out in Delaware about this legislation. Note "Volunteer" in the subject line. We are specifically looking for volunteers to print out patient recruitment flyers and put them up in medical facilities, where appropriate, across the state.
Together, we can make Delaware the 15th state to allow the doctor-advised medical use of marijuana. Thank you for your support. Again, please pass this on to any patients you know who might be interested in getting involved.
